Well, i'm not really in the same kind of music with this but even if she's really popular here I don't know if you know her so.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNzCDt2eidg this is the most popular, but I really love this one : Does anybody watched Scrubs and know The Blanks ?
That black bear song is amazing. Love black bears, see a lot of them on the bike trails up here. Its now a permanent on my playlist for riding hahaha, the lyrics are amazing. Thanks for that. Gonna be digging around here for new music, you all have great taste.
aah, what a neat thread! I'll have to go through the posts and see if any of these tickle my fancy. as for me, my musical tastes go all over the place. here are some bands/singers I currently have a soft spot for: innerpartysystem (who, sadly, broke up earlier this year), mother mother, the flashbulb, and patrick wolf. innerpartysystem - heart of fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnNn2wkJMQ0 mother mother - the stand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50LShhlkTfw the flashbulb - kirlian shores http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aq9YGCsdSE patrick wolf - hard times http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH5vgng9LAg
Ever see this one? I adore First Aid Kit and dont mind a bit of Paul Simon either, so the best of both worlds here with what I think may well be their finest live performance:
Birdy's a great singer, I'd be more impressed if those were her own songs though. It's problematic that White Winter Hymnal and Skinny Love were both very unique songs that don't really suit her style. WWH in particular I thought was just bad, in comparison to the original.
Yeh, i'd have to agree that. I'm sure when I first heard of her she was portrayed as an up and coming singer-songwriter, but after Kako posted that I looked into it and only one song off her album is an original.
One of my favourite musicians is Mark Kozelek, he had a band called Red House Painters in the 90's and now plays under the name Sun Kil Moon. His voice changed quite a lot, but I really enjoy most of his work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_3PYEjFBgo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMrYmEJXfY0 This band, January, deserves a mention as well. Their album 'Motion Sickness' is perfect for this time of year I feel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6CZ2AmeNIY
I know! I so wish I could have been there. And it gets better, take a look at their website (http://www.landisfest.com/), I fully support any music festival that includes homemade pancakes and hog roast on the setlist! (and part of the $30 ticket) The performance and the atmosphere looks great.
I learned today that Gothic Country is a genre. And it's awesome. Especially this band, Moon Bandits. The banjo is played pretty interestingly here. Also, their singer has an interesting voice. And for me an interesting voice is better than a really good one.
It was really fun. I kind of dread festivals, because they're usually very hectic and, as far as a tour goes, they're usually the least enjoyable shows to play. But these guys do it really low-key, and people just come out to barbecue and watch music and camp. It was way more my speed.
A friend showed me this really good cover of "Where is My Mind?": Also, this Son Lux track is really something:
This page is becoming increasingly painful to load. That Trampled by Turtles cover is amazing. I don't even know the original song. Banjos add magic to anything.
