Hey guys, so on the last forum there was a thread for everyone to post other bands/artists that they listened to so I took it upon myself to start a new thread up! I was thinking we should all post a few bands we would like to share with each other, but avoid writing every band we listen to, the lists can get pretty long haha It also then becomes a bit daunting of a task to pick music from a list of 50+ different musicians. So maybe keep it down to 2 or 3 suggestions so we can really check the artists out. I'm constantly looking for new music and figure since we all love Ben's music we probably have other similar tastes in music. Lately I've been getting really into more folk music. These bands I'm recommending are all pretty folky, but considering we all listen to Radical Face I figure you'll appreciate it. Most of you probably know Bon Iver, but I thought their still worth sharing for those that may not have heard them. I recently went to a show they played near me and have to say it was probably the best show I've ever seen! Here's a song off of their new album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oCPAO3bp4Q The Wooden Sky is also worth a listen, their quite a bit more folky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbHH_ewzzJk And Patrick Watson, I love the percussionist in this group as he rarely uses a standard kit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1lC3fUtMew
seems fitting for a music forum everyone probably knows about Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes, but if by some chance you don't, its good stuff. emotional folky stuff (he does have one electronica cd though) Lua: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aZh261KZWI next is Cassino, which is a folk/acoustic started from the ashes of emo band northstar. its not emo though, straight up folk. Kingprince: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4DX1zINJSc a lastly, E For Explosion which is indie/electronic/pop (i suck with genres) which, again was started from emo band JamisonParker, but this is definitely a change from that. Paper Flowers Never Die: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_RZNhZF8no nothing life-changing, but still good stuff.
Haha! That was my thread... I adore Steve Tilston, british folk guitarist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbtoJLOnBAM David Jacobs-Strain, Oregon based blues musician http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKLImAjCzhA Antje Duvekot, German/American singer-songwriter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PO5tmxEJi8 That should be enough for now Cheers!
Faves at the moment (aside from Ben of course): The Tallest Man on Earth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5DyCIdYfpA Gotye http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyVJsg0XIIk Villagers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg0UsO5SFb8
I have recently just went to see The National for the 3rd and 4th time this week. The only band I would say that rivals Ben's projects.
Loving all the music! Here's one from a band that unfortunately just broke up The Middle East http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjB2hbMYIXo&feature=relmfu Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8-YMpYbRqY&feature=related Lucie Thorne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26R7jTl7DvY&feature=related
My friend turned me onto this group "Balmoreah" recently, and I really like some of their stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij59zbvuHZM&feature=feedf Makes me wish I knew more string players. Hahaha.
Hmmm, interesting music...... Seabear : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omnipCYQYA8 Horse Feathers : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDLfb1xSAY4 The Decemberists : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sw61oITuts
I really like Steven Delopoulos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-lD9m_YEXU Then there's always Steve Goodman, one of the best live performers ever to have lived: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6Py8Hw7QT8 Another big favorite when it comes to live performances is Harry Chapin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB5_N-D5sv0 Yeah, and I always adore Billy Joel and Simon & Garfunkel, but I shouldn't really need to mention them
I love Horse Feathers! This sounds great, thanks for the lead... Also check out Richard Shindell. One of the greatest modern songwriters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97dOq9ybnQ8
Love it! It's is amazing. Like all the music people have been recommending and have even heard quite a few before hand. Keep the suggestions coming! Another band to check out is Zeus! They're pretty sweet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc4qnM9rcVo
A lot of good music already posted up there. Loving the choices and new stuff I'm being presented with right now, but as far of what I'm listening to, I guess I'm all over the board with different stuff. In my car I'm listning to Say Hi's (afka Say Hi to your mom) Um, uh oh Album -Track I've always favored The Weakerthans Reuninion tour album too- Track There's this awesome band I just picked up a few weeks ago. Not bad for an Aussie group Loving the Temper Trap - Track
Seeings as you've even HEARD of Seabear, I'm surprised that you didn't mention Mum, considering their close ties, or maybe you just don't like them. Links: Korstryzn | They Made Frogs Smoke 'Til They Exploded | Marmalade Fires | Dancing Behind My Eyelids They used to have identical twin female lead singers, which led to even more amazingly cool and sometimes haunting live shows. I must recommend Do Make Say Think much higher, though. They're a fairly instrumental band, though it isn't universally true. I have to especially recommend the album You, You're A History In Rust. It's one of those albums that deserves to be played from beginning to end. Link: A Tender History in Rust Welcome Home is a song that makes you move inside; so is The Earth Is Yours And based on what Ben has said in emails to me in the past, I'm sure he won't mind me highlighting a song that was only ever released in small numbers on EP. Dotted Lines Wait a second Ben, was that re-released by Morr Music on CD!? As a side note, if the Barenaked Ladies come near you, even if you can only tolerate their music, I would highly recommend going to see them. They are the best performers I believe I have ever seen. When I went (with my girlfriend of the time, who liked them), they played for, I believe, 3 straight hours, without break, WITH dance routines here and there, etc. Didn't use fireworks or anything. I have much more respect for that band than I have love for their music, and I'm glad I went. The show was amazing.
Mumford and Sons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KCg_QEHtkY Lindisfarne http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsHvFOAGJ8k
Tom Waits is probably my favorite lyricist ever, and I love his performances. This is my favorite one on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12qBoy2rhVw&feature=feedf Gets me every time.
Around the same time I discovered Radical Face, I also discovered Brooke Waggoner. I always seem to mentally pair the two together. Check her out; she's fantastic. Heal for the Honey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxroVbjzeSg Fresh Pair of Eyes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uQI8be9NsY Lungs Speed, Lungs Sped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usyLUaHdXuU Go Easy Little Doves [live]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At6tGKADKiA Lately I'm also enjoying Lissie, Maria Taylor/Azure Ray, Sara Bareilles, Arcade Fire, Metric, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Shiny Toy Guns.
Great music right there. Alot of musicians/bands to choose from, but if I'm stuck to 3(besides Ben) I guess I'd have to pick The Perishers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Hk7x3gc1_Q Mew: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqY4f45SKqY And last but not least the beautiful music from Explosions in the Sky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzIK5FaC38w
Just discovered another amazing band! All of their music is name your price too! They're awesome. Ben I think you'd like them since you recommended Balmorhea (which I am now hooked on by the way) They're called The Slowest Runner [in all the world] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OvGFzeFRW4 Check them out!
Loving the new M83 album at the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX3k...j8&annotation_id=annotation_231612&feature=iv Along with The Roots, it would be my pick for 2011 Major thanks to Eoin for the link to Indie Current on another thread. Through it I discovered Youth Lagoon - amazing stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IKPT30jOJw&feature=related
