My little brother, Emeral (the other half of Iron Orchestra) put his first EP online, and is starting to upload his piano compositions. I'm really happy to see him finally doing it. He also did a music video with a couple friends, and I think it came out awesome. A science-fiction idea on a budget is tough, but I think he pulled it off. Here's a link to his site, which has more of his music: http://evanderorange.com
Oh, that's not my brother in the video. That's our friend Curtis, and Emeral filmed it with another friend of ours, Laura. I'm basically the only white guy in my family. Example brother: http://hashrocket.com/people/micah-cooper
Oh yeah, I remember that Christmas photo you posted with him in it last year. Listening to the song again, I really like how mellow the vocals are. And then that almost eerie sounding chorus-type-effect near the end.
Curtis is also one of the baddies in your Pound of Flesh video, isn't he? The Giver sounds really great, though I can't hear any others as the soundcloud links on his website don't seem to be working for me. Is anyone else having trouble with that, it may just be me. Have you been producing his solo stuff Ben?
Been listening to a lot of Elliott Smith lately, he is my favorite musician I think. His guitar parts always make me feel like a beginner.
I've been swimming in Nick Cave and David Bowie's latest albums...mind blowingly good stuff: I try to follow the Florida music scene when I can, and came across this appalling album review for a great new group called Hundred Waters: http://www.vice.com/read/we-interviewed-hundred-waters The review made quite a few people pretty damned mad, with it's out of hand Florida bashing, and resulted in this rather justifiable reply: http://blogs.orlandoweekly.com/inde...-feels-the-wrath-of-floridas-music-community/ Gotta love the winning quote at the end: "If Florida is a wang, you can suck it". Also, the Hundred Waters EP is sure worth a listen.
Astro and Rick have released a limited split 7". You can hear it here (or here it hear): http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/...ilt-7-single-the-rainmakers-bw-fallen-street/ Or buy it here: http://limitedfanfare.bigcartel.com/product/astronautalis-rickolus-ltd-ed-7
A rare and recently discovered hour long session of 20-year-old Bob Dylan playing on Cynthia Gooding's radio show in 1962. It's awesome.
My brother just put up a short film he made. He's worked at a movie theater for about 8 years now, mostly doing projection. But everything has moved to digital now. So he wrote a piece of music as a little farewell to 35mm film and then shot the process of building a movie from reels. I think it's really awesome.
Hey that is really awesome. I find that kind of machinery has a mystical appeal to it. I have an old super 8 film camera lying around somewhere but I don't have the motivation to do anything with it. I don't even know what I'd film. I watched Lost in Translation, and this was right at the end of the credits. I'm glad I stuck around til then, because I really like this song. Makes me wonder what I've missed by being impatient.
I recall Ben saying something about Neutral Milk Hotel being an influence at some point. Thought I'd post this link for their first show in 15 years: http://www.40watt.com/event/266923-neutral-milk-hotel-athens/
Wow, the complete original lineup! Not that I remember the first time round . I wonder if they're going to release anything new, that would be cool.
Yall, I just have to say that I love this forum! I feel like Knives from Scott Pilgrim... "I mean, I didn't even know there was good music until two months ago!!!" Thanks Ben and everyone!
I'm lying in my log cabin reading Walden by David Thoreau with The Branches playing on my portable turntable. It's getting chilly, so I throw a few logs and start a fire. I look outside and realise it isn't the fall, it's winter and the snow has shut me in. Its time for some winter wilderness music. I put on Bon Iver but realise its boring as hell. What should I play next? (in reality I live the city, with no idea how to start a fire without a lighter or box of matches, no idea how to skin a rabbit)
