No need for thanks. I clearly wasn't paying attention since I was half asleep. Didn't realize how bright and thin I made it! Sorry about that.haha Here's a warmer version: http://www.mediafire.com/?o9xk4z91r9ry5dp
Hey, I always appreciate help. Thanks again, I do think the new master does sound better and uploaded it. https://soundcloud.com/mattar-1/homesick-master02
I really like the sound of this. Love to hear about your setup, how'd you get that sound for your vocals? Reminded me a little of Meursault, started following you on soundcloud (iamnotlost) Look forward to hearing some more of your stuff
Hey, thanks a lot. I haven't heard of Meursault but I will check them out. As far as vocals I double tracked through a blue spark which is a ldc, or at least a big mdc, and added reverb to both with one being significantly more wet than the other. I am new to recording so others like glitch and Ben could probably help you out more than I can. I really appreciate the feed back though I have been keeping my music pretty close to the chest so far.
Meursault decent I think you'd like them theyre a Scottish band, your vocals reminded me of them little. I know I'm being dumb but what's a ldc/mdc?
Not dumb at all, they are just abbreviations for large diaphragm condensor/medium diaphragm condensor. Just condensors with different sized diaphragms, there are also sdc.
Ar thanks for explaining, what did you use to add reverb? Sorry full of questions im looking at starting to record some singing and don't really know where to begin!
My interface, a focusritte saffire, came with a plugin sweet and I just use that reverb plugin, there are tons of plugins online but I dont really know anything about that and am just figuring out the ones I have.
Homesick master 02 is really cool. That echoey sound on the voice is very atmospheric. Or something like that. I'm not sure. But it's cool. I have a new microphone, so I made something new. https://soundcloud.com/magicalzebra/sugar-pig
I finally had time to reunite with my friend over Christmas break and we recorded another one of his ideas. This is still a work in progress...we have some more layering to do. It really picks up the pace about halfway in. https://soundcloud.com/b0keh/king-of-cups
bokeh that's a great track, think the guitar/rain/vocals really come together beautifully, can definitely see the radical face influence on it too, tempo change fits well too! This is my first attempt mixing vocals. My friend's sister came over during Xmas to put her vocals to this song, first time done recording with vocals: https://soundcloud.com/iamnotlost/treading-water-feat-emma
The rain gives an incredible atmosphere to the whole song, it all just sounds really big. Treading water is again, atmospheric. I use that word to much but it's difficult to describe them in a word better than "awesome". Bought a harmonica. Bought a triangle. Played the recorder some more. Used my guitar as percussion. This came out https://soundcloud.com/magicalzebra/the-humble-triangle
I already like your style! There's a certain charm to these tracks! I might just prefer your music to Explosions In The Sky, and I'm a fan of that band. You are incredible. And if anyone's interested, I make ambient music. http://weepingcrone.bandcamp.com/
Thanks Corvus! I'm listening to your ambient stuff, I really like the way Strange Pebbles creeps up on you.
Thanks a lot Corvus that really means a lot to me, I've not listened to a lot of their stuff but 'your hand in mine' is one of my favourite songs of all time, what's your soundcloud? I've started following few people back, not sure if you're one of them!
Finally managed to write a song I liked, I hope someone enjoys it at least. https://soundcloud.com/magicalzebra/nameless It's about ghosts convincing a woman to kill her abusive husband. I thought it'd make a good story I guess. Definitely needs more instrumentation, so I'll be working on it.
Thank you! The voice synchronisation really needs some work, which will be easier when i have more people to sing with
I agree -- The new track sounds great, MagicalZebra. I always really like browsing through this thread. So many of the creations sound really nice, and quite different to what I hear most of the time.
I wrote a short fiddle tune and named it after my friend as a joke https://soundcloud.com/magicalzebra/lament-for-alek-very-short I'll record a long version but i'm quite proud of this, i even wrote it down in proper music notation
