The Roots just finished downloading on iTunes and I'm giving it the first proper spin. Cannot wait. Good luck on your tour, Ben. I'll be at the DC show to show my support!

Joe you lucky bastard, hope the west coast is treating you well. Jack is coming to play those shows with Ben so you'll get to see Mr Ringca as well. Miss you brother!

I'm sad :(. I preordered the non-bundle version of the album on the UK store. But I've just discovered that apparently the immediate digital download of the album is only available to those who purchase the whole bundle in the UK. I'd assumed it would have been the same as the US store where the digital download comes with both....

Guess I'll have to be patient and wait for the postman....

In due time, my friend, in due time. You'll be fine, but just think about the musical story that awaits for you to hear!

    Exciting.

Ben, what can I say. Yet another triumph! Particularly partial to Moon is Down; reminiscent of Homesick...

So I've thrown this on my iPod and we leave Thursay to see Ben Cooper play in San Fransicso that day. I've heard this to be a rumor, but was wondering if maybe I shouldn't listen to the album on the way down. The rumor is simply that, is that you can't listen to any music of the band in what your about to see on the drive down.

What are you takes on that? I mean it's a little of topic from this thread, but I've been listen to The Roots over and over again since I've downloaded it.

    Anyone?

(By the way, this album as to it's predisessor's is certainly leaning to my favorite of the recent works. Maybe having to do with what the story that follows and will continue to follow, and the time-line limiting instruments. ) -Great job to Radical Face

Anytime I go to a concert I make a specific point of listening to the band. It gets me even more pumped for the show. Also I don't know if I could listen to anything other than this album for the next while. I just got it at 2 today and have already listened to it 4 times. It's just sooo good. Definitely like the new direction of the album, I love how much piano is in the album and how nicely it compliments the rest of the song. (probably because I play piano) I'd have to say my favorite song is Ghost Towns

Exactly! Who ever thought for this to be a rule, wasn't thinking. Anyway, I've avoided the notion and now I've got the mix in the car. The wife see's my point as well. hahaha. I feel the same way Eoin.anderson, and the piano throws in much more of a dramatic emotion to the feel of song. Ghost towns is great! I often, so far have been replaying Always Gold, as I'm sure the percussion of clapping get's to me, as I start stomping to the music.

Just had my first listen to the album. I'm really enjoying it! I'll probably listen through it again a few more times before bed.
It's definitely different from Ghost. Ghost was a great album to sing along to...in a way. I imagine most of us know the words to all the songs and if you're like me you still find yourself singing one of the songs in my head every now and then.
This album is a different beast. You can tell it's more personal and he's telling us a story. You don't necessarily want to sing along as much as you want to sit still with a cup of tea and a blanket and let Ben tell you his story.
Well, maybe not sit entirely still since you can't help but stomp or clap along with a few songs, but I think you know what I mean! :)

I only have one tiny criticism about the album. It's silly really, but in Severus and Stone when Ben gets to the key point in the song 'His feet didn't touch the ground!', I wish his voice was even louder. I want more Ben! haha I just think it should stand out a little bit more. But that's it. Told you it was kinda silly. Maybe it's because I start singing along at that point in the song and drown out his voice with my own (totally destroying my theory.haha).

Anyhow, fantastic album! It was worth the wait.

well, I wanted to wait until I'd listened to the album all the way through a few times before I wrote on it here. I've been listening on my iPod on the way to work and on the way home from work, so as it's now Thursday morning I've had 5 straight, uninterrupted listens to the album from start to finish (my journey to work takes approx 1hr 30 mins), and I am absolutely in love with it. Piano is probably my favourite instrument, so I was glad to hear this album very piano heavy, and stripped right back. Honestly, the emotions invoked throughout the album have left me quite shattered at times, going from heartache to finger-tapping joy and everywhere in between.
I don't want to gush too much, but I just love the album and the way the stories are almost thrown directly at you. Reading Severus and Stone and then listening to the song again was almost like a Stephen King-esque dreamlike moment going on, but in song, if that makes sense, haha.

Brilliant. Roll on January 24th 2012, I'm so excited that I'll get to see a live show after so many years of enjoying Ben's music :D

Thanks for the feedback, folks. It's good to finally have the damn thing out. I'm pretty involved in the second record already, so this one feels a little distant. But that always happens, regardless of how I try to time it.

Oh, and if you didn't get the immediate download, pm me and I'll send you a direct link.

12 listens later and I'm very much loving this album!:D
