I've wanted to make this thread for a while. What are your favorite individual lyrical passages in Ben Cooper's songs? Which songs have the best songwriting in general?

For me, there are far too many to list, however I will attempt to give a few of my favorites lyrical passages here:

    Radical Face

there's nothing wrong with smiling on your way through the windshield
and there's nothing wrong with laughing as your heartbeat stops
there's nothing wrong with dancing as the missile hits the roof
and there's nothing wrong with grinning as your last hopes are shot
From "We Crawl Through Ceilings", Ben's first truly great song in my opinion.

It's the look upon your face
    (...)
It's the age when you didn't care, darling
This whole stanza from "Fog in the House of Lightbulbs"

a bird, caught in the wires, bleating for help I can't provide
    I'm not that big
I hope for the best, but nothing changes
    I'm sorry
but I was blessed with bad eyes
    there's a lot that I miss, but I don't mind
    I'm not that old
I'll find out what broke me soon enough
    From "Glory"

Broken down, but still worth a lot to someone
    This line "Along the Road"

the house feels like a graveyard now
like the floorboards hide the bones
My favorite part of "Goodbye, Goodbye", although the lyrics of the entire song are brilliant

but knowing you won't be back,
doesn't mean that I will stop waiting
    From "A Pound Of Flesh"

    father turned into a drinker
a dark bastard with a wooden heart
sister learned to be a mother
before she'd ever played another part
    From "Family Portrait"

    you were never at rest
    you were always somewhere bound
as for me I'm the simple kind
I'll live and die in this town
    From "The Moon Is Down"

and I knew in my heart that my old life was gone
that in walking away, my name was undone
so I might as well run
    From "The Deserter's Song"

night, down by the shore. we were down by the shore
and the skies opened up, and the all the stars fell into the lake
    From "Summer Skeletons"

I still call her name, sometimes, just in case
This line from "Southern Snow" is so sad

check your head for target signs
    From "Blindinoneeye", an obscure one

The Electric President ones are too numerous to list here. What are your favorites?

Well it's quite hard to tell which are my favorite lyrics because I appreciate a lot whole of them, but if I had to pick some, I would say these ones :

"he said to me these words:
    don't you fear for me,
I am where I'm supposed to be.

and when I woke he was gone
and I was wrapped in blankets on the lawn
the sky was blue and my skin matched the hue
and I could hear mother crying in your room
from here on out I wear this face for both of us"
    - Severus and Stone

"So, collect your scars and wear 'em well
Your blood's a good an ink as any"
    - The Crooked Kind

    "Sometimes at night
    When the voices quiet down
I find I hope that I am missed
And that they haven't forgot me"
    - Second Family Portrait

But frankly there are so much more lyrics that I like a lot... It was very hard to pick. I would add The Mute, the whole song, because I love the story and how it's written, but it would have been too long.

(Sorry if I made some mistakes in the lyrics of the songs, English is not my native language...)

Oh man those are good lyrics! I like loads of lines in pigeon teeth. I'll try and think of some of my favourites.
