People haven't been able to sign up for a couple months. I narrowed it down to my anti-bot plug-ins. I have disabled those, and switched it to manual registration. So I will just have to approve sign ups. And I might need a moderator at some point to help me fight the advert-armed bot army. But I guess we'll see what happens with this new strategy.
Sweet! Good idea on the admin idea. That's gonna take a lot from you to be here constantly checking people into the RadicalFace forums inn if you don't.
I have MagicalZebra helping me fight the bots. So I've opened up registration. Folks should be able to sign up at will again.
Awww, I was just starting to enjoy the erectile dysfunction ads... Don't be swinging that ban hammer too hard MZ!
Don't worry, you guys are safe... for now I can only "clean up" new users and posts, so I am the perfect bot-slaughter machine. I think there are a lot of email services you can sign up to in regards to erectile dysfunction by the way.
Yay, looks like there's been an influx of new members now the gates have been opened! If you ever need extra moderators I'd be more than happy to help, but it looks like you've got it covered. Your bot-slaughtering seems to be going very successfully, Magical Zebra.
I was trying to count how many I had murdered so I could put it in my signature, but I've lost track.
They never stop. It's just a wave of Viagra and Nike robots. And I may need another moderator, Hughes, so I'll let you know.
Help would be appreciated. I think we should recruit Craig as well though because he lives in a completely different time zone so he can decapitate and disembowel bots while we're all sleeping
Moderators in other time zones could help. There are currently 11 spam threads in general discussion.
Yeh, people with different time zones would make sense, or people who log in at different times, like morning and evenings.
Yeah, looks like I'll have to enlist more bot slayers if I'm gonna keep the registration open. Or find a way to thwart the bots without breaking the entire registration process.
Do you have CAPTCHA enabled on registration? If not, that could help. Also, are new threads automatically approved? Changing that could have some positive effect. Unless, of course, you've done both of those things. In which case, ignore this post I'm tempted have a look into an Akismet plugin for XenForo when I have some free time, too. It worked perfectly when I had a WordPress blog.
I think if Ben was approving threads before they came in, the bots would probably be filtered out pretty well.
Right because I'd approve "buysoccer.com" and posts composed entirely in russian full of links to viagra websites
